Hilton Head Island, South Carolina: Snapshots and Memories

This is the same stretch of beach I visited many summers when I was a kid: the first ocean I ever swam in, where I collected shells, got sunburned, and built sandcastles.

My family has been vacationing on Hilton Head Island since before I was born, and I met up with them there earlier in May to continue the tradition. I loved watching my niece and nephews build sandcastles and splash in the tide pools like I did when I was their age.

To Do & TO eAt on the Island

My family’s island days have always been focused on the beach and pool–we keep it pretty simple.

It’s a great place for riding bikes with the whole family–much of the island is covered with wide bike paths–so we always rent bikes when we visit. If you like golf I know there is a lot to check out, but I don’t have any personal experience with that.

My family has always had access to a kitchen in the places we’ve stayed on Hilton Head, so we tend to eat in a lot, but if we are going out we head to the Santa Fe Cafe or ride our bikes to get Hilton Head Ice Cream.

This year we tried Hudson’s Seafood and I got a classic lowcountry shrimp and grits with a side of hushpuppies.
